Designing for Comfort and Care

This Lowry Hill bathroom remodel was all about combining modern style, accessibility, and lasting comfort. After more than 40 years in their home, the homeowners found their existing bathroom outdated and increasingly difficult to use. The owner, who faces health challenges that limit the mobility of her hands, needed a space that was not only safe and functional but also beautiful.

univer

Recognized with a NARI RotY Award – Universal Bath for a design that supports comfort, safety, and aging in place—without compromising style.

Move the slider to reveal the transformation.

One feature the homeowner was certain about keeping was the dropped vanity sink, a hallmark of the 1990s addition.

Every day, our client enjoys sitting at the lowered section of the vanity to do her makeup, a ritual that supports both function and comfort. To make daily use easier, traditional knobs were replaced with lever-style handles, improving accessibility without sacrificing style.

Throughout the space, universal design was approached as an elegant feature rather than an afterthought.

  • Built-in shower bench with a detachable handheld shower for flexibility and ease of use.
  • Comfort-height toilet with a washlet bidet seat, heated features, and a built-in night light for added ease and comfort.
  • In-floor heating for those chilly winter mornings.
  • Grab bars for stability and accessibility.

Coordinating Stones

Through deliberate stone selection and placement, non-matching materials were harmonized. This created a visual flow, ensuring the space remains a stylish, accessible bathroom.

This project in Lowry Hill, part of the historic neighborhoods of Minneapolis, highlights how thoughtful design supports both style and accessibility.

This bathroom is now both safe and stylish—supporting the homeowners as they age in place, while honoring the features that make the space personally meaningful. It also serves as an example of how our bathroom remodeling services help homeowners achieve a balance of beauty, comfort, and long-term functionality.
